poor writing.
It uses 112 bits of key
E(k1, D(k2, E(k1, x ) ) )
and they use CFB(1) mode around an ECB triple-DES, using their
own silicon which runs triple-DES at least 2M encryptions/sec.
(I called earlier today to get the info.)
