The Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association ("CTIA") filed a petition for rulemaking before the Federal Communications Commission ("Commission") on Wednesday July 16, 1997, to expedite development of a lawfully authorized electronic surveillance standard under the 1994 Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act ("CALEA").
