Late today, the FCC released its long-awaited
order extending the October 25, 1998, CALEA
compliance deadline 20 months to June 30, 2000.

The Commission will soon initiate a rulemaking
proceeding to consider whether modifications
to the core J-STD-025 standard may be necessary
to comply with CALEA.
